Purchasing an Individual Health Insurance Plan 5 Things to remember

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

If your one of the millions (like me) who lost their medical benefits when either they were laid off or the company they worked for cut their Health care due to cut backs. Now you find yourself facing a scary fact – you and your family have no coverage if something were to happen. Almost just as scary is finding a individual health insurance plan that won’t break your bank account and provide you with the coverage that is right for you.

Simplify your search by remembering these 5 simple things

#1 Is My Doctor Included in My Health Insurance Plans Network? Many health insurance plans have a network of doctors that they work with. If your family doctor is not in their network, you usually will pay a higher deductible and/or a higher percentage of the overall cost for your medical expenses. Unless you are willing to change doctors, I’d talk to their office and find out which insurance plans they except and see if one of them will fit your needs.

#2 What Plan Can I Afford? Choosing a health insurance plan that you can afford can be a very difficult task with several cost considerations. The one most think of is the premium you must pay monthly. Unfortunately there is much more to consider like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. Deductibles are the amount you must pay prior to your insurance paying a dime. Copay is the amount you must pay for a doctors visit (usually between $20 and $50 per visit). Coinsurance is the amount that you and your insurance company split after your deductible is covered. The more out of your pocket the less your monthly premium will be, but if something major happens and you have a low premium with a high coinsurance you may be put in a position that you may not be able to afford. Think about how much you could afford if some major illness or accident happened.

#3 Are My Prescriptions Covered? Are you or someone in your family is currently on a prescription? If so you’ll want to ensure that the health insurance plan that you choose covers those cost. If not it could cost you more to purchase those than it would to go with a plan that has a higher monthly premium. So make sure that this on the top of your list of questions to ask when talking to your customer service representative.

#4 Are You Expecting to be Expecting? If so then you’ll want to find out if find a health insurance plan that will cover those expenses as well. Don’t get lazy when checking on this one. Many plans will say that they’ll cover maternity and prenatal expenses, but they don’t state how much coverage is included. Make sure you get enough coverage for your expected needs.

#5 Check Out Several Insurance Providers. When choosing a Individual Health Insurance plan make sure you shop around to get the best deal. I know it’s a huge eye opener when you start looking at the price tags on some plans. That’s why you really need to check out several providers to ensure your getting the most coverage for your money. I recommend checking with at least 2 if not more brokerage companies to find the best deal. They work with multiple insurance companies that are competing for your business, and usually get you the best deal. There are on line only brokers and off line brokers that have an on line presence but will have an customer service Representative assist you in finding the best plan that meets your needs. Either is a good option. However, when your first starting out I recommend speaking to an agent first so you can take notes and see what kind of questions they’re asking so you’ll have a better idea of what to look for when shopping an on line broker. One of the largest and most respected on line brokers is ehealthinsurance.com. If you prefer to speak to a live agent I recommend using Insuranceagents.com.

These are my top choices for helping you in selecting your new Individual Health Insurance Plan. Insuranceagents.com, ehealthinsurance.com.

Are you desperate for Tooth Pain Relief, but strapped for cash?

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

There are worse pains than others in life. In my experience having tooth pain or tooth ache is one of the worse. This could be because there is not much you can do to relive tooth pain. It can be difficult to drink, eat and sleep and you might have pain if you breath with your mouth open. The only think on your mind is finding tooth pain relief.

You may be asking what can you do when tooth pain strikes? You have two options. You can either try home remedies yourself or you can go and visit your dentist. There are pros and cons to both of these options which will now be analysed.

At first you may want to go to the dentist. You may believe it is the best way to eliminate any tooth pain. However the main problem with the dentist is the cost! There are many prescription medications that the dentist can give you to alleviate the pain. You may just need simple treatment which the dentist will also be able to do. You need to remember though a visit to the dentist requires making appointments, travelling to see them and taking time off work.

Home remedies are the less obvious option. When you are in pain, they may seem like a wild card, but people have been trusting home remedies for much longer than dentist and there are several home remedies that work effectively and quickly.

If you are looking around for home remedies to relieve your tooth pain then you need to find items that have antibacterial agents. We don’t mean your kitchen cleaner, think about foods that you have. Items that can reduce the pain include garlic and rock salt. These can take a little time to be effective. There is a theory that if you chew raw garlic everyday it can strengthen your teeth. The same can be said for onion which has a number of antibacterial agents, the onion can be put directly on the tooth pain and you should feel relief almost instantly.

So, summing up; if you are a tad strapped for cash or you have a deep fear of the dentist, there are many home remedies available for tooth pain relief that could be waiting to help you find relief in your kitchen! With the prices that some dentists charge today, it isn’t hard to see why so many of us are looking towards home remedies.

The Truth About Tooth Pain Relief From The Dentist

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

The most painful pain I ever had was tooth pain and I’m sure you would agree. If I can find a solution to stop the pain and get tooth pain relief then I will do this prior to my dentist appointment.

The worst feeling is the throbbing tooth in my mouth and the pain travels through my cheek and around my eye which is an awful pain. The eye can throb no matter which side the tooth pain is on. It can make you feel like someone has hit you very hard with a hammer. I sometimes think that if someone did hit me with a hammer it would distract my mind from the tooth pain.

As soon as I start to experience tooth pain I like to use oral jell. It is fast and simple to use and it usually controls the pain fast. Aspirin is another pain killer I like to use if oral jell is unavailable, I just set it on the tooth in order for the pill to seep into the tooth resulting in tooth pain relief. Hydrocodone can also be used for this. I will always try these things first before I go to the dentist. I don’t like dentists, and I don’t like needles. In my opinion all dentists like to do is charge you a lot of money for patching up the tooth.

While we are on the topic of dentists, I sometimes wonder why dentists do their job. Apart from the obvious such as eating and having a nice smile why do we need our teeth?

Most people, in fact nearly everyone I know, recommend that as soon as tooth pain strikes you need to visit your dentist. As you enter the dentist the receptionist will ask you to complete the necessary forms which you will probably feel is a waste of time when all you want to do is stop your tooth pain. It makes you wonder how many trees were destroyed to make all this paperwork. Then you sit in anticipation and wait until it’s your turn.

You finally get into the dentist chair and the first thing he does is ex-ray your mouth. More waiting, Still in Pain. After about an hour or two he comes back into your room and tells you that pulling isn’t the best thing for you because he can put some silver in your mouth and patch the hole he needs to drill in your tooth to get the decay out. But first you need to go home and take some of these anti-biotics to get rid of the abscessed that has formed. On his way out he tells you to make another appointment in about a week so he can do the work that he suggests on the bad tooth you have.

On the way out you will then be told about all the charges you will have to pay for your visits. They will probable read something like this – $50 appointment, $75 bill for the room and $100 for the ex-ray.

When you return for your next visit, the dentist will begin to do the work he suggested on the first visit. He will get some silver and patch up the hole that he drilled in your mouth. The only concern I have with this method is that several months from now you will be back in the chair as the piece of silver he is putting in will have fallen out whilst you were eating your favorite meal. Do you think the dentist will get frustrated as his work has failed? No, because it is never their fault. The dentist will just carry out his work – but this time may decide to pull the tooth out and yes you guessed it – charge you for the whole procedure which should have been done the first time you went to see him.

Because dentists can only do a certain amount of work per day, they sometimes don’t always have your best interest at heart. Having your best interest at heart may not always be the most profitable so if they can, they may put off doing the correct work for you the get your tooth pain relief.

In conclusion, I feel that the patients interests, which is tooth pain relief is not always what the dentist looks for first. Why would they want to solve the pain for good by pulling the tooth out, when they can keep the tooth in creating more visits and more billing. This will create better income for them so it may be down to you to find your own tooth pain relief.

I Just Got My Hat Nailed On With Home Stairlift Insurance

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

A common question often asked! Should I have insurance cover on my stairlift. Should I try and have it listed on my Home content policy or find an insurance broker that deals with mobility products.

Should you take out any cover at all? Well some people seem to stroll along through life with no complications and never seem to have any bad luck with items they purchase. Unlike myself! No matter what I buy even if it’s the dearest item in the shop sure as day follows night I guarantee it will break. (Normally just out of the guarantee period) So if you are one of them people like me. I highly recommend some type of insurance policy be taken out.

Stairlift breakdowns can be costly as well as inconvenient: Most stairlift companies will offer you an annual stair lift maintenance contract once your warranty has elapsed. The initial train of thought on discovering the price of these annual service contracts is to wave them goodbye.

What are the Pro’s & Con’s: The simplest solution would be to have a stair lift maintenance contract with the company you purchased the stair lift from. Plus side! Local Engineer on call, Van stocked with spare parts, In-house trained on the products they install service and repair. One phone call should have you flying up and down the stairs again in no time.

The Downside: Tied into a 12 month contract, Expensive 350-500 per year (none refundable) Depending on the service contract you take out parts might not be covered or limited (Always read the small print)

Home Policy Insurance: It’s Your job to locate a company that will be willing to attend. If it’s late at night or weekend not much chance of that happening unless you are on their books so to speak. You will still be required to find the cash to pay for the call-out charge and then claim this back through your insurance company (This could take Months)

Lets face it when you need a stairlift you need it NOW. The last thing you want to be doing is looking through the telephone book. Phoning company after company who all seem to use a telephone answering machine. Ever made an appointment with a company that never turned up! I have many times, back to square one best get the phone book out again.

In a nutshell any type of cover is better than no cover. If you want hassle free service and don’t mind the hefty price tag your option is simple. If you are on a limited budget then home insurance would be better than no cover. Insurance companies that insure mobility products should have a private contractor or stairlift company who attends emergency call-outs on their behalf etc.

Stairlift Repairs Are Expensive Make Sure You Are Insured

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Should you take out the optional service maintenance contract most stairlift companies offer once your guarantee warranty has elapsed. If you are not covered by a Maintenance / Repair Cover Plan repair bills can be both inconvenient and costly.

Replacing broken or worn parts on your stairlift can be very expensive often exceeding the cost of a Service Maintenance Contract and no guarantee a company will offer to send a call-out engineer to someone who is not on their system.

Annual stairlift maintenance contracts start at around (300-600) The lower price insurance packages will only give you very limited cover and without doubt you will need to pay for the extras! Call-out, Parts and Labour costs.

Now be very careful about call out charges! Some companies will charge you for traveling time. If you do not have a contract with the company you engage the services of, make sure you ask if they charge for the engineers traveling time.

If there not a local company and the engineer spends two hours travelling time to reach you? That’s a hefty bill! Average call-out price (80 per hour x 2 =160) and he hasn’t even arrived yet. That’s only half of it good possibility you will get stung for the two hour return trip as well 80 x 4 =320 smackers.

All companies offer a range of maintenance service contracts rated by stars or colours. Obviously the more stars or metallic of colour the higher the price but more benefits and cover you receive. All contracts should include an annual service of your chairlift.

They are expensive but for the peace of mind they bring I would recommend that you take out some type of protection cover on your stairlift unless you have very deep pockets. Even better use the company you originally purchased the product from. Other suppliers might not have the service parts required to complete the service or repair etc.

In my next article I will explain what you actually get for your money when an engineer arrives to carry out an annual service of your stairlift. Keep your eyes peeled out for that one some good info to be had.

Controlling The Outrageous Costs In Health Care

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Controlling rising health care costs has become a source of great interest to many people around the country. This is regardless of their socioeconomic classification or ability to pay for such health care. What’s for sure is a lot of conversation is taking place over the matter of health care reform and what can be done to control increases in the cost of medical care, which is outpacing inflation.

Generally, there are a number of reasons for why the cost of medical care seems to be such a difficult thing to control. Societally, many citizens have grown used to comprehensive health insurance policies and medical treatment regimens that have led to a problem with supply and demand in some parts of the country. The distortion of the supply curve is a result of this issue.

A number of health policy experts believe that many of the problems inherent in controlling rising health care costs can be addressed through implementation of a relatively small number of policy changes. Firstly, enabling legislation that reforms lawsuits brought against healthcare providers would be a good first step.

However, this proposition is seen as being difficult to accomplish due to constitutional reasons and also the power of trial attorneys as a lobbying group. Another way to gain quick control is to allow health insurance companies to sell policies in every state. Right now, each of the states has their own rules for the sale and regulation of health insurance coverage.

Because each state regulates health insurance differently, the markets have become distorted and competition is artificially constrained. This has resulted in wildly different costs for a health insurance policy from one state to another. Allowing insurers to compete head-to-head could lead to price drops. Also, placing patients into appropriate coverage pools within those policies could also work.

Lawmakers and policy experts in the different states also must accept some of the blame. This is because many lawmakers tend to try to force insurers to offer extremely comprehensive policies regardless of a particular customer’s wants or desires for certain coverage within each individual policy. This raises costs across the board, and eliminates an environment where — as in auto insurance — a customer can pick and choose certain coverage aspects.

Overall, controlling rising health care costs is becoming more and more important as the debate over health care reform rages on across the country. Certainly, there are a number of relatively easy fixes that could lead to immediate drops in the overall cost of health care, which is sure to comfort a family staring at a large health insurance bill these days.

Palliative Care As A Laudable Medical Goal – What You Need To Understand

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Palliative care has grown over the decades into a movement that many doctors and other health experts believe can help in the relief of pain and suffering and the improvement of quality of life in patients who may have disease is not subject to cure. Reduction of severity of symptoms is its main aim, along with smarter expenditures of scarce medical resources.

There are any numbers of medical specialties that can be combined into a palliative care treatment regimen that works well in eliminating or reducing pain and suffering that is affecting a patient suffering from various disease processes. The hospice movement across the world has been at the forefront of the idea of making a patient — especially one who is terminally ill — as pain-free as possible when it comes to end-of-life issues.

In seeking to relieve pain rather than cure disease generally, there are a couple of different care regimens that are used to help a patient deal with the pain that comes from a disease process. Remember, the goal of palliative care is to relieve pain, not to cure the disease itself.

At hospice facilities, the goal is to improve a terminal patient’s quality of life and to eliminate pain while those who are not residing in hospice and are suffering pain from chronic illness are generally treated through the efforts of an acute care hospital. In medicine, the generalized term for all of these treatment regimens is usually known as “supportive care.”

In supportive care, the patient’s quality of life is addressed both from a short-term and a long-term perspective. Medical resources will be steered towards the aim of alleviating pain and improving such quality of life rather than in trying to discover a cure, at least in the near-term.

There are many instances in medicine where palliative care can make a lot of sense. From the perspective of improving a terminally ill patient’s life and eliminating his or her suffering, there can be no doubt that it is extremely attractive as a treatment regimen. For those who are suffering from nonfatal disease, an interdisciplinary team based out of that acute care facility can work together to address the pain issues and improve life for the patient.

No matter the reasons for why and how such care philosophies developed, it is a sure bet that most people would look at the idea of palliative care as a laudable medical goal these days. Terminally ill patients can receive quality care that improves their lives and eliminates pain so that they can concentrate on the long goodbye. Those with chronic pain have also benefited greatly, as have facilities that can better allocate scarce medical resources to where they are needed most.

What You Need To Understand About The Growth Of Palliative Care In Medicine

Monday, May 17th, 2010

The growth of palliative care and medicine has been building steam over the last few decades. It is the kind of care that has as its goal supporting and improving the quality of life of the patient stricken by disease rather than spending time trying to cure that same disease. It can be a way to reduce the severity of the disease or illness through a variety of therapies.

Generally speaking, many different disciplines within the medical field can be brought together and given the goal of the elimination or severe reduction of pain and suffering that is making a patient uncomfortable. Palliative care philosophies are seen extensively in the hospice environment which has as its primary goal helping to make the patient as comfortable as possible while he or she is nearing the end of his or her life.

Instead of trying to cure an incurable disease, for the most part, there are usually two types of care that are associated with relieving pain and suffering rather than curing disease. As above, the primary type of palliative care is that given to those stricken by disease that are nearing their life’s end.

Along with that, there are treatment regimes that are non-hospice based and is used for those who may be stricken with chronic pain from disease. The classic term for such a goal is what doctors and other health experts refer to as supportive care. In such a treatment regimen, the improvement of the patient’s short and long term quality of life is the goal.

Additionally, resources will be expanded towards that aim and not expended towards the aim of finding some sort of cure at least in the short term. As far as whether or not palliative care can make sense in a given situation, it certainly seems to be sensible especially when a patient has an incurable disease.

It can also make sense when a patient is suffering from chronic pain, though his sort of palliative treatment regimen will be extended from an acute care facility rather than the hospice. Today, palliative care specialties are recognized as a specialty among physicians.

However the hospice and palliative care movements came about, there is little doubt that many doctors and health experts today look at concerted efforts to improve quality of life and relieve suffering and pain as a laudable goal. This is especially so when a patient is suffering from pain due to incurable disease and there seems little logic in expending great amounts of resources that could be better spent on the quality of life therapies, especially in the near-term.

Knowing More About People Getting Older

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Getting older is something that we are all worried about, well, it is not so much the getting older of the situation, it has more to do with the people aging. This is because age shows on your face, if there was a way for people to age without the age actually showing up on the surface, more people would not mind it that much.

The fact is that everyone is aging, there is nothing that we can do about it, so, we all need to find some peace in it. Yes, it is true that things start sagging, skin becomes looser, and wrinkles appear just about everywhere, but is there anything that we can do about people aging?

Well, the human race is surely trying. Now, there is one thing that you have to come to terms with, and that is that you cannot stop aging, you will get older, no matter what you do, your body will get older, and you will start to fell older as you age, but that does not mean that you cannot stop the signs of aging, this is one thing that the human race as just about perfected.

Plastic surgery is one of the most used methods to stop the signs of aging. It is something that many people are using these days, and more and more people are says that they love the results they get from it. If you do not feel that you want to go under the knife to look young, or to stay looking young, then there are a few other methods that you may want to explore.

There are a ton of creams and other anti aging products that you may want to try out on the market today. One thing that you will have to realize, however, is that not all of them work. This is why some are more expensive than others, but then again, you should know that not all of the expensive ones work either.

This is why the anti aging war is a process of elimination. If you are really serious about stopping people aging, then you may want to start your journey with one product and then move forward from there.
